The register lists 40 versions with four- to six-cylinder engines from 1,189 to 3,300 cc, outputs from 46 to 71.1 kW, kerb weights from 699 to 1,890 kg, gross vehicle weights from 1,080 to 2,930 kg, lengths from 4,110 to 4,785 mm and widths from 1,480 to 1,760 mm.

Datsun's pick-ups of the 520 to 720 series contributed substantially to Japanese makers' success in the North American and European pick-up market and competed there with the Toyota Hilux and Ford Courier for price-conscious trade and private buyers.

When buying a used example, check for rust in the frame, load bed and wheel arches, the condition of the carburettor or early injection system, and wear on the clutch and brakes on heavily used commercial vehicles; spare parts for the common pick-up models remain comparatively easy to source through the Nissan parts trade and independent suppliers, while the rarer van versions are more involved.
