Steyr was among the first tractor makers to offer a continuously variable transmission as standard, developed jointly with ZF and marketed in-house as S-Matic; the CVT range with the six-cylinder diesel bundles several power steps on this basis, here with the CVT 6135 and CVT 6145 at the lower end of this six-cylinder line-up. The transmission's control range fully replaces the classic stepped gearbox and lets travel speed be adjusted independently of engine speed.

The register lists 2 variants at 101 to 108 kW from a six-cylinder diesel of 6,597 cc, a kerb weight of 6,390 kg, a length of 4,740 mm, a width of 2,490 mm, a height of 3,000 mm and a rated 2,100 rpm; both models are approved for rapeseed diesel.
With a CVT gearbox and around 135 to 145 hp, these models target larger arable farms and contractors who switch frequently between field work and road transport; competition comes from the CVT models of sister brand Case IH as well as from Fendt Vario and John Deere AutoPowr.
Buying a CVT tractor, the condition and oil-change intervals of the continuously variable transmission matter above all, along with hydraulic tightness, the state of the six-cylinder diesel including the turbocharger, and the electronics and sensors of the transmission control; servicing and parts run through the CNH dealer network for Steyr and Case IH; a test drive across the full control range shows whether the transmission shifts smoothly and without jerking.
