Case IH is the agricultural brand of CNH Industrial, formed in 1985 when the Case Corporation of Racine, Wisconsin, took over International Harvester's agricultural tractor business and merged both model lines under the Case IH name. The Maxxum name dates from that period: International Harvester had introduced it shortly before the takeover for a new tractor generation, and Case IH carried it forward for decades on its mid-range tractors, most recently in the MXM range.

The MXM 120 from this range carries a water-cooled six-cylinder diesel engine of 7,480 cm³, producing 91.2 kW (124 hp) at 2,200 rpm and also able to run on rapeseed methyl ester (RME). At a permissible gross weight of 8,000 kg and an unladen weight of 5,441 kg, the tractor measures 4,694 mm in length, 2,012 mm in width and 3,030 mm in height on a 2,723 mm wheelbase; torque stands at 505 Nm.
With six cylinders and over seven litres of displacement, the MXM 120 belongs to the upper mid-range of farm tractors, built for pulling heavy implements, haulage work and running powerful harvester attachments. Its top speed of 40 km/h places the machine in Germany's category T driving licence class for agricultural and forestry tractors.
When buying an MXM 120 used, the condition of the six-cylinder engine after many operating hours matters, along with the tightness of the cooling system on this large-displacement unit and the state of the clutch and gearbox. Also worth checking are the hydraulic pump for the lift function, the engine control electronics, and corrosion damage to the frame, which is common on tractors of this age after many years of outdoor use.
