Belarus is the export brand of the Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ), which has built tractors in the Belarusian capital Minsk since 1946 and, with several million units produced, ranks among the world's largest tractor makers; the brand supplies more than 100 countries, with strongholds in Russia, the successor states of the Soviet Union, Africa and Latin America. The 2100 range is among the more powerful wheeled tractors of the plant, and the 2103 model has been built since 2006.

Like the 2422, the 2103 carries a water-cooled six-cylinder diesel engine of 7,120 cm³ displacement and 156 kW (212 hp) at 2,100 rpm, but at 10,500 kg unladen weight it is built considerably heavier. With a length of 6,250 mm, a width of 2,100 mm, a height of 2,950 mm and a short wheelbase of 2,300 mm, the emphasis lies on drawbar pull and stability rather than road speed: the top speed is 26 km/h.
At 26 km/h the 2103 falls under driving licence category L, which covers design top speeds up to 40 km/h; the PTO follows the standardised speeds of 540 or 1,000 rpm, and the three-point hydraulics follow ISO 730. The short wheelbase combined with the high unladen weight favours traction during heavy tillage and when pulling implements with a high draft-force requirement.
When buying second-hand, the operating hours, the condition of the injection pump, wear on the clutch and shuttle transmission, and the tightness of the hydraulics after years with heavy three-point implements all matter. Rust on the mudguards and cab, the condition of the axle bearings given the comparatively short wheelbase, and a traceable maintenance history give further insight into how hard the machine has been worked.
