With gross weights up to 62 tonnes, the semi-trailers fall into the upper span of vehicle class O4 and are built for heavy-load transport, for example construction machinery, prefabricated components or other compact, very heavy cargo where payload matters more than volume. Vehicles of this weight class require separate abnormal-load permits depending on the route and country.

Buying used, the condition of the chassis and reinforcements, the axle load of the individual axles and their steering on multi-axle versions, the brake system and tyres, and lashing points and ramps matter on heavy-load semi-trailers; with a high gross weight rating, a complete inspection history is particularly important. Since such semi-trailers often run under special-transport permits, it is also worth checking the documentation of past special permits and route approvals.
