Bautz was a German tractor maker based in Saulgau in Upper Swabia, which built small and medium farm tractors with air-cooled diesel engines in the post-war years. The model 300 was made from 1959 to 1963.

The engine is an air-cooled two-cylinder diesel of 1,400 cm³ displacement, producing 20 hp (14.7 kW) at 2,100 rpm. The tractor is 2,950 mm long, 1,545 mm wide and 1,470 mm high, with a wheelbase of 1,770 mm, a weight of 1,500 kg and a top speed of 20 km/h.
An air-cooled two-cylinder with this combination of displacement and a comparatively low engine speed was built for calm running and decent draft force, of the kind needed for tilling smaller and medium-sized fields. PTO work with implements such as mower bars, power harrows or trailers was among the most common uses of such tractors. At 20 km/h the tractor falls within the L driving-licence category.
On a tractor of this age, what matters is the condition of the air-cooled engine and its cooling fan, rust on sheet-metal and frame parts, and the condition of the brakes and tyres. The PTO shaft with its guard and the condition of the electrics should also be closely checked, along with the wiring harness and the fuel lines. Since Bautz no longer exists as a brand, spare parts are only available through specialist dealers and collector circles for historic farm tractors.
