The MF 4709 is powered by a three-cylinder diesel engine of 3,300 cm³ displacement, delivering 95 hp or 70.8 kW at a rated speed of 2,200 rpm, and runs on diesel, with AdBlue added in the cab version. The Dyna Synchroshift gearbox with 12/12 gears, 420/85 R 34 tyres fitted at the rear, and an unladen weight of 3,900 kg on a 2,250 mm wheelbase give a design top speed of 40 km/h; four-wheel drive is available on the cab version.
The fact that AdBlue is mentioned only for the cab version points to simpler exhaust after-treatment on the cabless platform version, built for markets with lower emissions requirements. At a top speed of 40 km/h the MF 4709 falls into the German T licence class; a three-cylinder of this size delivers the combination of economy and sufficient pulling power typical of a multi-purpose tractor in this class.
When buying a used Global Series machine, it is especially important to establish which exhaust after-treatment is actually fitted, since it differs between the cabless and cab versions, along with the condition of the Synchroshift gearbox and the tread depth of the 420/85 R 34 rear tyres. On four-wheel-drive models the front-axle suspension should also be checked.
