Aebi of Burgdorf in the canton of Bern builds, alongside its classic carrier vehicles, the Vario range of modern transporters for mountain farming and municipal use. The VT450 Vario EU6 represents the current generation of these transporters with a continuously variable drive.

The VT450 is powered by a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with 2,970 cm³ displacement, delivering 80 kW or 109 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a continuously variable, mechanical-hydrostatic power-split drive and four-wheel drive; the wheelbase is 2,850 mm, the unladen weight 3,450 kg, and the design top speed up to 50 km/h.
Because the VT450 travels faster than 40 km/h, it requires driving licence category T rather than the category L that suffices for slower carrier vehicles. The EU6 designation in its name points to compliance with the corresponding EU emissions stage; the continuously variable transmission lets the road speed be matched to load and terrain without gear changes, which pays off when working on slopes and in municipal use with frequent implement changes.
When buying used, check the continuously variable drive unit and its electronics, the four-wheel-drive distribution, and the front and rear implement connections including hydraulics; on a transporter of this class, brakes and steering also show wear first after intensive slope work.
