Żuk – other models: the Polish light van from Lublin between the A 15 B, A-15 and Nysa, four-cylinder 2,120 cm³ engine, 1,530 to 1,570 kg unladen weight

The Żuk was built from 1959 to 1998 by FSC Lublin and, alongside the Nysa, was the defining light van of Poland in the Eastern Bloc, made as a panel van, minibus and flatbed. This page gathers versions the register could not assign to a named range: the A 15 B, A-15 and Nysa; the A in Żuk type codes denotes the base range, and the number 15 the model tier.

The register lists here 3 versions with a four-cylinder engine of 2,120 cm³, unladen weights from 1,530 to 1,570 kg, gross weights from 1,988 to 2,500 kg and widths from 1,750 to 1,820 mm.

For decades the Żuk was the backbone of Polish small-scale transport in the postal service, trades and agriculture, and was also exported to other Eastern Bloc states, before losing the market to Western imports and more modern designs in the 1990s.

On a used Żuk, rust on the frame, wheel arches and floor panels, the condition of the carburettor engine and ignition system, the brake system, and parts supply, which today runs mainly through Polish classic-vehicle specialists and breakers, all count.

Like many light commercials of the Eastern Bloc, the Żuk is laid out as a cab-over design: the cab sits above and partly behind the engine, giving more load or passenger space for a given overall length than a layout with the engine ahead of the cab; in exchange, reaching the engine means tilting the driver's seat or part of the cab trim.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
