Zetor 97 series (UR I Super) – five Czechoslovak tractors from the 1980s, 3321/3341 to 7321/7341 Super: 33.1 to 58.1 kW, three- and four-cylinder diesels, 3,045 to 3,295 kg unladen weight

The 97 series likewise comes from the Unified Range I (UR I), the Czechoslovak standard range of the 1980s from the Zetor plant in Brno, here however as a reworked Super version with the types 3321/3341, 4321/4341, 5321/5341, 6321/6341 and 7321/7341 Super. As with the base range, the first digit orders the size in ascending order, while the four-digit pairs denote closely related versions. The engines, as in the base range, are three- and four-cylinder diesels.

The register lists here 5 versions with 33.1 to 58.1 kW from three- and four-cylinder engines of 2,696 to 3,922 cm³ and torque from 150 to 236 Nm at a rated speed of 2,200 rpm. Unladen weights range from 3,045 to 3,295 kg, length from 3,370 to 3,686 mm, width from 1,900 to 1,925 mm and height from 2,625 to 2,640 mm.

The Super version of the UR I range supplemented the standard line-up with an improved variant that, like the base range, formed the backbone of agriculture across the former Eastern Bloc for decades and was also exported in large numbers to Western Europe. The low price and simple technology remained the central selling point in the Super version too.

Buying used Zetor Super models calls for the same checks as the base range: the clutch and gearbox, the tightness of the hydraulics and corrosion on the wings and cab. Thanks to the close relation to the base range and the large numbers built, parts remain well available through Zetor specialists.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
