The Volvo F10, together with the more powerful sister models F12 and F16, forms the second generation of Volvo's long-haul trucks, launched in 1977 as the successor to the F86/F88/F89 range at the Tuve plant near Gothenburg and built until replacement by the FH range in 1993. The number in the type designation gives the approximate displacement class: F10 for around 10 litres, F12 for around 12 litres and F16 for the range's largest in-line engine; suffixes such as 4X2, 6X2 and 8X2 in the model names denote the number of axles and the drive configuration.
