The stroke is 120 mm. The compression ratio is 16.5:1. Maximum torque is reached at 1,400 rpm. Construction: unit construction (no separate frame). The MEZZO-Baureihe series covers 8 models. Rated output within it ranges from 75 to 115 hp; the 6900 sits in the upper part of that range with 102 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the 6400-4 below it with 95 hp and the 6600-4 (6600E) above it with 105 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 4,000 to 4,420 kg; here the 6900 sits at the top of that range with 4,420 kg. 20 Valmet/valtra models across 3 series are on record.

Valmet Mezzo 6000 series (1990s) – the Finnish mid-range from Suolahti: 6000 to 6900, the hundreds number as power step, -4 for four-wheel drive, E for the upgrade, Sisu three- to six-cylinders of 3.3 to 6.6 litres

Mezzo was the name Valmet gave its mid-range presented in 1991 – the 6000 series from the Suolahti plant in central Finland, between the smaller and the larger Mega, as the Finns named their ranges in Italian. The type logic: 6 marks the range, the hundreds number the power step – 6000 about 75 hp, 6300 about 85, 6600 about 100, 6900 about 115 hp – -4 four-wheel drive, standard at Valmet, E the upgrade with better equipment. The engines are Valmet's own Sisu diesels from Linnavuori – three-, four- and six-cylinders of 3.3, 4.4 and 6.6 litres at 2,200 to 2,300 rpm – and the range brought Valmet's specialities: the HiShift shuttle, the Nordic cab with all-round visibility and the à-la-carte tractor the customer configured at the factory in colour and equipment.

The register lists 8 versions with 55.2 to 84.6 kW from three- to six-cylinders of 3,298 to 6,593 cm³, torque from 247 to 390 Nm, unladen weights from 4,000 to 4,420 kg, lengths from 4,295 to 4,750 mm, widths from 1,985 to 2,181 mm and heights from 2,690 to 2,771 mm.

In Scandinavia the Mezzo was the tractor of forestry and dairy farms and the first Valmet sold in Western Europe in larger numbers; in 1998 the Valtra Mezzo range followed and then the A and N ranges under the Valtra name.

On used tractors, operating hours, the condition of the Sisu engine (robust, but check injection pump and radiator), HiShift shuttle, four-wheel-drive clutch, hydraulics, forestry equipment and cab rust count; parts run through Valtra and AGCO.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
