Mezzo was the name Valmet gave its mid-range presented in 1991 – the 6000 series from the Suolahti plant in central Finland, between the smaller and the larger Mega, as the Finns named their ranges in Italian. The type logic: 6 marks the range, the hundreds number the power step – 6000 about 75 hp, 6300 about 85, 6600 about 100, 6900 about 115 hp – -4 four-wheel drive, standard at Valmet, E the upgrade with better equipment. The engines are Valmet's own Sisu diesels from Linnavuori – three-, four- and six-cylinders of 3.3, 4.4 and 6.6 litres at 2,200 to 2,300 rpm – and the range brought Valmet's specialities: the HiShift shuttle, the Nordic cab with all-round visibility and the à-la-carte tractor the customer configured at the factory in colour and equipment.

In Scandinavia the Mezzo was the tractor of forestry and dairy farms and the first Valmet sold in Western Europe in larger numbers; in 1998 the Valtra Mezzo range followed and then the A and N ranges under the Valtra name.
