The linkage is category II. The PTO runs at 540/1000 rpm. The 100 er-Baureihe series covers 7 models. Rated output within it ranges from 49 to 105 hp; the 1100 sits at the top of that range with 105 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the 900 below it with 90 hp. Valmet 100 series (1970s and 1980s) – the tractors from Suolahti before Mezzo and Mega: 500 to 1100, the hundreds number as power step, Mk-1 and Mk-2 as generations, Valmet three- and four-cylinders of 2.7 to 4.4 litres

The 100 series is Valmet's programme of the 1970s and 1980s – the tractors the Finnish state group built after moving production from Tourula to Suolahti in 1969 and with which it became the leading brand in Scandinavia. The type logic: the hundreds number orders the power step in ascending order – 500 about 50 hp, 600 about 60, 700 about 70, 800 about 85, 900 about 95, 1100 about 105 hp – Mk-1 and Mk-2 mark the generations of the 700, the suffixes -4 in other register ranges four-wheel drive. The engines are Valmet's own diesels from Linnavuori: the three-cylinder 311 of 2.7 litres in the small, the four-cylinder 411 of 4.4 litres in the big models, at 2,000 to 2,300 rpm – engines regarded as frugal and cold-start-proof that Valmet also supplied to other makers. The range brought the safety cab as standard equipment, with which Finland and Sweden protected the driver earlier than the rest of Europe.

The register lists 7 versions with 36 to 77.2 kW from three- and four-cylinders of 2,685 to 4,397 cm³, torque from 168 to 350 Nm, unladen weights from 2,077 to 3,715 kg, lengths from 3,180 to 3,877 mm, widths from 1,870 to 2,177 mm and heights from 2,280 to 2,700 mm.

The 100s were the tractors of Finnish forestry and dairy farms; in 1982 the 05 series (505 to 905) followed and in 1991 the Mezzo and Mega, with which Valmet expanded into Western Europe.

On used tractors, operating hours, engine condition and injection pump, clutch and gearbox, four-wheel-drive clutch on -4 models, hydraulics and rust on cab and mudguards count; parts run through Valtra and AGCO.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
