The 3470 from Terex is part of the Terex Hydraulic Truck Crane series. The engine delivers 212.9 hp (156.6 kW), with a displacement of 7,200.5 cm³. Torque is 820.3 Nm. Rated speed is 2,500 rpm. Ground clearance is 362.7 mm. The gearbox has 7 forward gears. There are also 1 reverse gears. Maximum torque is reached at 1,440 rpm. Tyre size: Front 22,5 x 8,5. Rear 22,5 x 7,5. The Terex Hydraulic Truck Crane series covers 20 models. Rated output within it ranges from 109.5 to 506.9 hp; the 3470 sits in the lower part of that range with 212.9 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the 2857 below it with 202.8 hp and the AT15 above it with 231.2 hp. 424 Terex models across 31 series are on record.

Terex truck cranes T and TC – the heritage of Lorain, P&H, Demag and PPM: T340 to T790, TC40 and TC60, AT and MAC 25, 81 to 326 kW

In the 1990s and 2000s Terex collected crane makers the way other groups collect patents: Koehring/Lorain of Waverly, Iowa (1995), PPM of France (1995), Demag Mobile Cranes of Zweibrücken (2002) and several smaller ones, and from that puzzle came the crane programme that sits under Terex in the register. The T range – T230, T300, T340, T500, T775, T790 – are the American truck cranes from Waverly, whose number roughly gives the capacity in US tons (T340 about 40 t, T775 about 75 t), XL the long-boom version; the four-digit 2857, 3063, 3470 and 70100 follow the Lorain pattern with boom and capacity in feet and tons. TC40 and TC60 are telescopic truck cranes of the European line, AT15 and AT20 small all-terrain cranes, MAC 25 a mini crane of the Demag era and UC15 a compact crane. Terex sold Demag to Tadano in 2019 and its American crane manufacturing in 2022; the machines keep working.

The register lists 20 versions with 80.5 to 325.9 kW from engines of 6,001 to 12,702 cm³, torque from 394 to 2,101 Nm at 1,600 to 2,800 rpm and service weights from 21,098 to 42,200 kg.

For operators the origin is decisive: a T340 is technically a Lorain successor with parts from Iowa, an AT20 a PPM descendant, a MAC 25 a Demag – manuals, parts and workshop knowledge run through the respective line.

On used cranes, operating hours separated into travel and crane duty, the condition of telescopic boom, slew ring, outriggers and ropes, the chassis with brakes and suspension and the inspection history are what count.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
