The Profi Trac-Baureihe series covers 9 models. Rated output within it ranges from 160 to 500 hp; the Profi Trac 3000 TVL sits in the lower part of that range with 280 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the Profi Trac 2500 VL below it with 240 hp and the Profi Trac 3500 TVL above it with 320 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 9,000 to 18,000 kg; here the Profi Trac 3000 TVL sits in the lower part of that range with 11,500 kg. 91 Schlüter models across 19 series are on record.

Schlüter Profi Trac (1978–1993) – the systems tractor from Freising: 1600 TVL to 5000 TVL, the number as power class, V for four-wheel drive, T for turbocharger, Schlüter and MAN engines of 7.1 to 20.9 litres

The Profi Trac was Schlüter's answer to the question of what a tractor beyond 150 hp should look like: not an enlarged standard tractor but a systems vehicle with four equal wheels, all-wheel steering, centrally mounted cab and mounting spaces front and rear – the Freising maker presented it in 1978 and built it until the end of tractor production in 1993. The type logic: the number gives the power class in tenths of hp – Profi Trac 1600 about 160 hp, 2500 250 hp, 5000 500 hp – V stands for four-wheel drive, T for the turbocharger (the VL versions are the naturally aspirated variants). The engines are Schlüter's own five- and six-cylinders in the smaller models, MAN engines in the big ones up to the V12 of 20.9 litres in the 5000 TVL, the most powerful tractor ever series-built in Germany; the register span of 5 to 12 cylinders and 7,127 to 20,911 cm³ shows that breadth.

The register lists 9 versions with 117.1 to 368 kW, unladen weights from 9,000 to 18,000 kg, lengths from 5,670 to 6,450 mm, widths from 2,450 to 2,720 mm and heights from 3,160 to 3,460 mm.

The Profi Trac remained a niche product for contractors, large farms and municipal use, but its concept lived on: Fendt Xylon, JCB Fastrac and Claas Xerion followed the idea of the systems tractor.

Used Profi Tracs are collectors' items with prices depending on condition; engine (MAN parts are better available than Schlüter parts), transmission and all-wheel steering, hydraulics, cab and sheet metal count.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
