Scheuerle STGK – heavy-haulage modules from the German special-transport pioneer in Pfedelbach: 13 versions from 20 to 94.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight

Scheuerle Fahrzeugfabrik traces back to a smithy acquired in 1869 by Christian Friedrich Scheuerle in Pfedelbach; in 1937 Willy Scheuerle founded the Willy Scheuerle Fahrzeugfabrik and built the first heavy-haulage vehicles there, including low-bed trailers with a retractable chassis and mechanical all-wheel steering, followed in 1959 by the hydraulically supported pendulum-axle principle. Today Scheuerle belongs to the TII Group and is its largest production site at Pfedelbach for heavy special and modular transport vehicles. The STGK range groups heavy-haulage modules with the AP suffix, whose type numbers from 45.2 to 954-4 indicate the axle count or load-capacity level of the respective version.

The register lists 13 versions of the Scheuerle STGK with kerb weights from 20,830 to 44,580 kg and gross vehicle weights from 49,500 to 94,500 kg.

With gross weights up to 94.5 tonnes, the STGK modules rank among the heavy special-transport vehicles used for hauling industrial plant, wind-turbine and power-station components, or other exceptionally heavy and bulky loads.

When buying used modules of this type, the axles, hydraulic cylinders and lines of the pendulum axles, and the condition of the steering and frame for cracks and wear, deserve particular attention; with several coupled modules, the electronic synchronisation of the axles should also be checked. Scheuerle offers service and spare parts through the TII Group.

What to check before buying

  • Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
  • Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
  • Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
  • Compare the chassis number with the papers.
  • Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
