Renault Agriculture grew out of the carmaker's armoured vehicle division in 1918 and built its first tractors from 1919. The Super series of the early-to-mid 1960s belongs to the classic generation that preceded the major model renewal brought by the D series and later TX range.

The type numbers (2 to 7) follow a simple power hierarchy; the suffixes "D" and "(A)" denote diesel power and four-wheel-drive versions respectively, already available as an option from Renault at the time.
As a compact all-rounder for smaller and mid-sized arable and grassland farms, the Super series marks the last purely French design generation before Renault Agriculture's stronger internationalisation in the 1970s.
When buying a used example of this early series, clutch and mechanical gearbox condition, and on the four-wheel-drive (A) versions the front axle and its joints as well, plus rust on chassis and mudguards after decades of use, all matter; on the air-cooled two-cylinder models, the condition of the cooling fins and fan counts too.
