Renault Ares 800 range – large tractors Ares 816 to 836 RZ, 115 to 143 kW, six-cylinder engines of 6,788 cm³, 156 to 194 hp
The Ares 800 range formed the top end of Renault's Ares generation, complementing the smaller Ares 500 and Ares 600 ranges with large tractors powered by a six-cylinder engine; the models covered here, Ares 816, 826 and 836, all carry the RZ suffix. Like the rest of the Ares generation, the range was built at the Le Mans plant in France, before Renault Agriculture was taken over by Claas in 2003.

The register lists here 3 versions with 114.8 to 142.8 kW, or 156 to 194 hp, from six-cylinder engines of 6,788 cm³, torque from 588 to 780 Nm, unladen weights from 7,300 to 8,150 kg, lengths from 4,540 to 4,880 mm, widths from 2,550 to 2,585 mm, a height of 3,035 mm and a rated speed of 2,200 rpm.
With power reaching almost 200 hp, the Ares 800 range ranked among the large field tractors of its time and competed with comparable ranges from Fendt, Case IH, Massey Ferguson and Deutz-Fahr; it targeted larger farms with a corresponding need for pulling power.
On a used Ares 800, the condition of the clutch and powershift transmission, the tightness of the hydraulics, rust on the chassis and cab mountings, and the condition of the electronics all count; parts now run through the Claas network, which took over Renault's tractor division in 2003. On the powershift transmission, smooth shifting between all stages without jerking or delay is a good indicator of its overall condition.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
