Opel Vivaro – compact van since 2001: joint development with the Renault Trafic and Nissan Primastar, length and height variants, CDTI diesels from 1.6 to 2.5 litres, 2.7- to 3.1-tonne weight classes

The Vivaro emerged in 2001 as a joint project between General Motors, Renault and Nissan, sold in near-identical technical form as the Renault Trafic and Nissan Primastar, and built at the British plant in Luton. The second generation from 2014 remained Renault-based before the third generation switched, in 2019 after PSA Group's takeover of Opel, to the French EMP2 platform, which the Vivaro has since shared with the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy. Model designations with L1/L2 and H1/H2, as on the larger Movano, denote wheelbase and roof-height variants, with weight classes between 2.7 and 3.1 tonnes.

The register lists 168 versions with power outputs from 60 to 107 kW, displacements from 1,598 to 2,464 cm³ and four cylinders. Unladen weights range from 1,635 to 2,720 kg, permissible gross weights from 2,150 to 3,100 kg, widths from 1,680 to 2,230 mm; length figures are only recorded for a smaller share of the models.

As a mid-size van, the Vivaro sits between the compact Combo and the large Movano, competing with the VW Transporter, the Ford Transit Custom and its technical siblings the Trafic and Primastar.

On the first and second generations, check the timing chain or timing belt depending on the engine code, the clutch pressure plate, rust on the sliding-door tracks and load sill, and turbocharger behaviour under load; on the third, PSA-based generation, additionally check particulate-filter regeneration in urban driving.
