Nissan Cabstar – the light chassis-cab truck with Renault Maxity engineering from Ávila: type logic from gross weight and power, 96 to 110 kW, four-cylinder diesels, 3.5 to 4.5 tonnes gross weight

The Nissan Cabstar is the brand's light chassis-cab truck, developed jointly with the identical Renault Maxity since 2006 and, like the larger Atleon, built in Ávila, Spain. The type designation follows the same pattern as the Atleon: the digits before the point give the gross vehicle weight in tenths of a tonne, the digits after the engine power in horsepower divided by ten – Cabstar 35.13 is thus 3.5 tonnes at roughly 130 hp, Cabstar 45.15 about 4.5 tonnes at roughly 150 hp. The F24 suffix marks the chassis series, SFTF24 a wheelbase variant. Earlier Cabstar generations go back to the 1980s, as an independent Nissan design before the cooperation with Renault.

The register lists here 8 versions with 96 to 110 kW from four-cylinder diesels of 2,488 to 2,953 cm³, unladen weights from 2,430 to 3,310 kg, gross weights from 3,510 to 4,500 kg, lengths from 5,560 to 6,750 mm and widths from 2,020 to 2,210 mm.

The Cabstar serves the class of light distribution trucks between 3.5 and 4.5 tonnes, where it competes with the Iveco Daily chassis and entry-level Mitsubishi Fuso Canter; bodybuilders fit it with box bodies, refrigerated units and flatbeds for urban delivery.

On used examples, rust on the frame and cab floor, the condition of clutch and gearbox in stop-and-go distribution service, the common-rail injection and the brakes count; parts run through the Nissan commercial-vehicle network and partly through Renault.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
