Mitsubishi Heavy Industries built graders for the Japanese and Asian markets before its construction equipment division merged into Caterpillar Japan in 2008; the MG range in the register is the programme of the 1980s to 2000s. The type logic: MG stands for Motor Grader, the number orders the size class in ascending order – MG130 the small grader for tracks and municipalities, MG230 and MG330 the mid-range, MG430 to MG530 the road-building graders, MG730 the heavy grader for mining and large sites – E marks the export version, R a variant, VHP the variable-horsepower version that matches engine output to the gear. The engines came from Mitsubishi's own production: 6D16, 6D22 and 6D34 as six-cylinders, S4K as a four-cylinder in the smallest model.

For decades the MG330 was one of Asia's best-selling graders – the machine of the road programmes in Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East – and many still run today because the Mitsubishi engines also ran in the group's trucks and buses and parts are available everywhere.
On used machines, operating hours, wear of blade, circle and blade drive, play in articulation joint and wheel lean, the condition of transmission and tandem drive and parts supply through Mitsubishi Fuso and Cat Japan dealers are what count.
