MAN introduced the TG range – Trucknology Generation – in 2000 as a common platform for its medium and heavy trucks, replacing the F2000 and L2000 ranges; from 2007 the programme split into TGL, TGM, TGS and TGX, though the type key remained. The digits after TG give the chassis's tonnage class, for example TG 26 for around 26 tonnes or TG 35 for 35 tonnes, while the axle formula such as 6X2 or 8X4 gives the number of axles and driven wheels. The suspension codes follow a fixed pattern: BB denotes leaf suspension on the front and rear axles, BL leaf suspension at the front and air suspension at the rear, and the added S in BLS marks a semi-trailer tractor with this suspension combination. The TG models are powered by MAN's own inline six-cylinder engines.
