Iveco 35C13 – the 3.5-tonne Daily with twin rear wheels: type logic, C for dual rear tyres, 13 for around 130 hp, four-cylinder diesels of 2.3 to 2.8 litres, bodies from panel van to refrigerated box

Iveco was formed in 1975 from the merger of the commercial-vehicle divisions of Fiat, OM and Lancia with the French maker Unic and the German Magirus-Deutz into the Industrial Vehicles Corporation, based in Turin. The Daily arrived in 1978 as a light van and has since been built through successive generations with continuous updates. The type designation follows a fixed Daily logic: the 35 gives the weight class around 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, the C stands for dual rear tyres – twin wheels for higher payload, as opposed to S for single tyres – and the final number gives the power step, here 13 for around 130 hp. The register lists versions from a plain panel van to a refrigerated box, for instance with a Lamberet body.

The register lists here 7 versions with four-cylinder diesels of 2,287 to 2,800 cm³, unladen weights of 2,395 to 2,870 kg, a gross vehicle weight of 3,500 kg and widths of 2,090 to 2,250 mm.

The Daily in the 35C range is among the most widely used chassis for body builders in Europe, from furniture transport through chilled goods to tradesman fit-outs, because the dual rear tyres allow high payloads and stable bodies without leaving driving licence category B.

On a used example, the condition of the four-cylinder common-rail diesel (timing chain, turbocharger, injectors), rust on the frame and body transitions, the condition of the twin tyres, and on refrigerated bodies the seals and function of the cooling unit all count; parts run through the dense Iveco service network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
