The 74 series was International Harvester's mid-range for the world outside North America: presented in 1970 and built at the British Doncaster plant, which had made the small IH tractors since 1949, with sister plants in France (Saint-Dizier) and Germany (Neuss) contributing transmissions and engines. The type logic: the final digits 74 mark the series, the first digits order the size in ascending order – 354 and 374 the small models succeeding the B-275 and B-414, 444 and 474 the mid-range, 574 and 674 the big ones at about 67 and 72 hp; the 475 is the development of the 474. The engines are IH four-cylinders from Neuss and Doncaster, as diesels and – for the British and export markets – as petrol engines, of 2.3 to 3.9 litres at 1,600 to 2,400 rpm.
