IMT – other models: tractors from Zemun outside the named ranges, from IMT 533 to 577 and 2050 to 5500, 13 to 385 kW, IMR, Perkins, Mercedes-Benz and Deutz engines

This collective page gathers IMT (Industrija Mašina i Traktora) tractors that the register could not assign to a named range – from the three-digit classics of the 1970s to 1990s such as the IMT 533, 539, 549, 558, 560, 565 and 577 to the newer four-digit ranges 2050 to 2210 and 5100 to 5500. IMT built its tractors in Zemun near Belgrade, Serbia, and used mainly engines from the neighbouring Industrija Motora Rakovica (IMR) plant, alongside Perkins, Mercedes-Benz, Famos, Simpson and Deutz engines. The De luxe suffix denotes the better-equipped version of a base model in each case.

The register lists 82 versions here with 13 to 385.4 kW from three- to six-cylinder engines of 2,365 to 11,045 cm³, unladen weights of 1,440 to 11,790 kg, lengths of 2,972 to 7,010 mm, widths of 1,625 to 3,570 mm, torque of 130 to 890 Nm and rated speeds of 2,000 to 2,300 rpm.

IMT was Yugoslavia's most important tractor maker and supplied farming across the Balkans as well as export markets in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa for decades. After Yugoslavia's break-up and subsequent economic crises, the brand remained a byword for robust, easily maintained tractors with long parts compatibility across many model years.

When buying used, the older ranges call for checking the condition of the IMR engine and injection pump, rust on wings and cab, the state of the hydraulics and power take-off, and cooling-system tightness; the newer 5000 and 2000 series additionally need gearbox and rear-axle seals checked, along with the availability of licensed Perkins or Deutz parts, since genuine IMR parts have become harder to source.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
