The HMC3 series from Hoyer includes the HMC3 280M-2. The rated output is 90 kW. The motor is two-pole, which at 50 Hz gives a synchronous speed of 3,000 rpm. The rated voltage is 400 V. The housing is frame size 280 M in foot-mounted form. The efficiency is 95 per cent at full load, 95.1 per cent at 75 per cent load and 94.5 per cent at half load. The motor is built in China. The data is based on the Australian MEPS registration under the GEMS Determination 2019; measured to IEC 60034-2-1 (Edition 2.0). The HMC3 series covers 22 models. Rated output within it ranges from 11 to 160 kW; the HMC3 280M-2 sits in the middle of that range with 90 kW. Its immediate neighbours are the HMC3 280S-2 below it with 75 kW and the HMC3 315S-4 above it with 110 kW. 97 Hoyer models across 5 series are on record.

Hoyer HMC3 – the range of large three-phase motors with multiple protection ratings up to IP66, frame sizes 160 to 315, 11 to 160 kW, 2- to 6-pole, fully classified High Efficiency Level 2018

Hoyer Motors is a Danish maker of three-phase motors that has its ranges built in China. The HMC3 range covers the large IEC frame sizes; type designations follow the scheme of frame size, build length and pole count, such as HMC3 200L-4 for frame size 200, length L, four-pole. As with the smaller ranges, each motor is certified simultaneously for several protection ratings, from IP23 through IP44, IP55, IP56, IP57 and IP65 to IP66.

The register lists here 22 versions with 11 to 160 kW, two- to six-pole, full-load efficiencies from 91.22 to 96.31% and at 75% load from 91.28 to 96.58%. Frame sizes run from 160 to 315, supply voltage is uniformly 400 V. Manufacturing is in China, testing used test method 2-1-1B under the 2019 GEMS determination; all 22 motors reach the 2018 High Efficiency Level.

With frame sizes up to 315 and outputs up to 160 kW, the HMC3 range covers the upper segment of industrial drives, such as large pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors, at a consistently high efficiency class and with broad protection-rating approval for different operating environments.

When buying used, on these large motors bearing condition and play, a checked insulation resistance of the winding, the condition of shaft, key and fan cover, and a legible nameplate with frame size, pole count and mounting code matter especially; given the weight of these frame sizes, the condition of the lifting eyes and foundation fixing is also worth checking. Spares run through Hoyer's distribution.

Frequently asked questions

How much power does the Hoyer HMC3 280M-2 have?

The Hoyer HMC3 280M-2 delivers 90 kW.

What to check before buying

  • Match the data plate against the order: frame size, mounting and rating have to agree.
  • Check the ingress rating against the installation site — outdoors or in dust the demands differ.
  • Hold the mounting form and dimensions against the existing seat before ordering.
  • The pole count sets the speed — when replacing an older unit, compare this first.
  • For used units, ask about winding condition and bearing play.
  • Ask about parts availability for this series — the running costs hang on it.
