GS Meppel AI-2800 – tipping semi-trailer range from the Dutch manufacturer: two-axle with 28,000 kg gross weight, 4,480 to 8,390 kg unladen weight, 10.1 to 11.3 m length
This page gathers the AI-2800 range from the Dutch manufacturer GS Meppel, which builds tipping semi-trailers for road haulage of bulk material. The AI-2800 designation names the fixed payload class of the two-axle chassis; the variants C, H, J, KU, L-24 U, LR and LSU differ in body and equipment detail of the tipping body. As class O4 semi-trailers they run air brakes with ABS or EBS and are subject to recurring roadworthiness testing; the semi-trailer tractor requires a category CE licence.

The register lists here 8 versions with unladen weights from 4,480 to 8,390 kg, a uniform gross weight of 28,000 kg, lengths from 10,100 to 11,280 mm and widths from 2,470 to 2,600 mm.
Tipping semi-trailers of this two-axle class are the lighter end of the GS Meppel range and run mainly in short-haul and regional transport of excavated earth, recycling material and bulk agricultural produce, where the lower unladen weight allows more payload per trip than the marque's three-axle versions.
On a used tipper, the condition of the tipping body and hydraulic ram, the tightness of the side boards and tailgate, corrosion of the body and frame from abrasive loads, the braking system and air suspension, and the tightness of the tipping valves all count; parts run through GS Meppel itself and the usual trailer suppliers. The two-axle version carries the load on a simple tandem axle rather than a tridem group, which lowers purchase and tyre costs against the three-axle versions but means a higher load on each axle.

What to check before buying
- Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
- Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
- Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
- Compare the chassis number with the papers.
- Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
