The GMC CCKW is the 2.5-ton all-wheel-drive truck General Motors developed from 1941 for the US Army and built in more than one version until the war ended in 1945; the four letters of the type designation follow GMC's own code — the first C for the 1941 design year, the second C for the conventional cab-over-engine layout, K for all-wheel drive and W for the driven rear tandem axle. Known as the 'Deuce and a Half', the CCKW with its six-cylinder engine formed the backbone of Allied supply logistics, including on the famous Red Ball Express route after the Normandy landings.
