GMC, formed in 1911/1912 from the merger of Rapid Motor Vehicle and Reliance Motor Car, has been General Motors' commercial-vehicle brand ever since and became best known for the CCKW range, the off-road 6x6 truck of the Second World War, and for the Sierra pickup range. GMC's sturdy chassis also frequently served as the base for motorhome and special bodies built by other manufacturers.
