Freightliner is the American truck brand that grew out of the haulage firm Consolidated Freightways in 1942 and has belonged to Daimler since 1981. The FLD series – known from 1991 under the Classic name – was Freightliner's classic long-nose tractor with an exposed bonnet, replacing the earlier FL series. The numbers 112, 120 and 132 after FLD give the bumper-to-back-of-cab length in inches (BBC), and so indirectly the size of the engine bay; XL and Classic XL mark the aerodynamically faired trim lines with a larger tank and radiator package.
