Fordson Power Major – the interim model from Dagenham, 1958 to 1961: between the New Major and Super Major, four-cylinder diesel of 3,610 cm³, 33.8 to 38 kW, 2,300 kg unladen weight
The Fordson Power Major was the uprated version of the Fordson (New) Major, built at Ford's Dagenham plant near London from 1958 to 1961. It marked an interim step in the Fordson Major line between the New Major of the 1950s and the Super Major, which replaced it from 1961; the 2020 and 2030 suffixes on the models covered here denote different versions and build years of the same base model. Fordson was Ford's independent tractor brand for the British and European market until 1964, after which the parent Ford brand took its place directly.

The register lists here 5 versions with 33.8 to 38 kW from four-cylinder engines of 3,610 cm³ displacement, an unladen weight of 2,300 kg, a gross weight of 2,300 to 2,350 kg, lengths from 3,310 to 3,320 mm and widths from 1,800 to 2,100 mm.
The Power Major was a robust upper-mid-range utility tractor of its era, common on British and Irish farms and in many Commonwealth export markets, where Fordson tractors ranked among the most-used brands for decades, backed by a broad dealer and service network across those markets.
On used examples, the condition of the four-cylinder diesel and its injection pump, the clutch and gearbox, the hydraulic pump and cylinders, and rust on panels and mudguards all matter; spare parts remain well available through Fordson and Ford specialists and aftermarket manufacturers.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.

- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
