Ford Excursion – Ford's largest SUV with the Triton V10 and Power Stroke V8 diesel: 158 to 235 kW, eight- to ten-cylinder engines, 5.9 to 7.3-litre displacement

The Ford Excursion was an SUV based on the Ford F-250/F-350 Super Duty, built by Ford from 1999 to 2005; it was the largest series-production SUV the brand ever built, aimed at buyers with heavy towing and payload needs. It was offered with the 6.8-litre V10 Triton petrol engine and the 7.3-litre V8 Power Stroke diesel; the codes in the model names, such as SU43F or NU41S, denote body and drivetrain variants from the order codes. Ford built the Excursion at its Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, alongside the F-Series Super Duty trucks with which it shares its platform.

The register lists 18 versions here with 158 to 235 kW from eight- to ten-cylinder engines of 5,949 to 7,300 cc, kerb weights of 3,215 to 3,990 kg, gross vehicle weights of 4,036 to 5,715 kg and widths of 1,950 to 2,140 mm.

The Excursion competed with the Chevrolet Suburban/Tahoe and the GMC Yukon XL, and because of its size and fuel consumption was offered in Europe only in small numbers through importers; in North America it remained a niche vehicle for towing caravans and boats until it was discontinued in 2005.

When buying one used, key points on the Power Stroke diesel are the condition of the injection pump and head gaskets, on the Triton V10 the valvetrain, and more generally corrosion on the frame and brake lines and the condition of the tow hitch; parts are available through the Ford trade and the US import parts market.
