Esve EAD – Dutch special-trailer builder since 1920: 7 versions, unladen weight from 3,380 to 7,160 kg, gross weight from 12,000 to 22,000 kg

Esve traces back to Schrör & Vriend, founded in 1920 in Winterswijk, moved to Lichtenvoorde in the early 1960s, and was taken over in 1992 by the Eeftink Rensing group; today the company trades as Esve Special Trailers. The model names of the EAD range combine the code EAD with one or two numeric values, in some cases with further letters such as LB or LHLS, for example in EAD 12-10LB and EAD 12-10LHLS.

The register lists here 7 versions with unladen weights from 3,380 to 7,160 kg at a gross weight of 12,000 to 22,000 kg. Lengths range from 9,360 to 10,350 mm, and widths from 2,300 to 2,550 mm.

With gross weights of 12 to 22 tonnes, the EAD range is among the lighter ranges in the Esve programme, which according to the company covers special transport up to 90 tonnes capacity; the EAD models are suited to smaller and medium loads in regional road freight. The unladen-weight spread from 3,380 to 7,160 kg shows differently heavy versions within the same range.

When buying a used trailer of this range, check the frame and drawbar for corrosion and deformation, the condition of the axles and braking system, the operation of the lighting, and on tarpaulin-covered versions also the tightness of the tarpaulin. Esve offers spare parts and service for its own ranges directly, since this is mostly in-house-developed technology.

What to check before buying

  • Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
  • Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
  • Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
  • Compare the chassis number with the papers.
  • Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
