Eicher 600 series – the last narrow-track and plantation tractors from Forstern (1986–1993): K, V, P and A, air-cooled two- to four-cylinders
The 600 series is Eicher's tractor programme of the late 1980s and early 1990s – according to the Traktorenlexikon the 642 K ran from 1986 to 1993 – built in Forstern near Munich, where Eicher had made air-cooled diesel tractors since 1936. After Massey Ferguson's shareholding in the 1970s the firm had concentrated on specialty tractors for vineyards, orchards, hops and vegetables; the 600s are the last generation of that direction before production in Forstern ended in the 1990s and the brand lived on at Eicher Motors in India.

The letters distinguish track width and version, and the register makes the logic visible in the widths: the K models (635 K, 642 K, 645 K) are the narrowest at 905 to 960 mm, the V models (648 V, 656 V, 666 V) measure 983 to 1,025 mm, the P models (656 P, 666 P, 680 P) 1,284 to 1,360 mm; an appended A always means four-wheel drive (642 K versus 642 KA, 656 P versus 656 PA) and makes the machine wider and about 150 kg heavier, and the B in PB and PAB marks an even wider version at 1,341 mm.
