The Gryphon R1410 from SRC, Inc. (USA) is a single-panel 3D AESA multi-mission radar in the X-band with pulse-Doppler processing and AI classification, mounted on a rotating positioner. It detects small and large unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and can be used stationary or deployed. The manufacturer names military use, airports and critical infrastructure as fields of use.

Range is tied to the target class: 7.7 km for small UAS and 18 km for large UAS. The panel turns on the positioner through 360 degrees or stands fixed as a 120-degree sector. The radar alone weighs 36.5 kg, and 102 kg with positioner and tripod. Power draw is 1,600 W. Pulse-Doppler separates moving targets from static clutter, and the AI classification is meant to separate target types, such as drones and birds.

Radars transmit too: in Germany every use of a frequency needs an assignment from the Bundesnetzagentur (Section 91(1) TKG). At a power draw of 1,600 W the question is not a side issue. How frequency use is regulated in Poland has to be clarified with the competent authorities before deployment. The radar detects and tracks; jammers may be operated only by authorities in Germany and Poland (Section 91 TKG, Article 42 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law).

In selection the operating mode must be chosen: a rotating panel sees each direction only briefly per turn, while a fixed one sees continuously but only across 120 degrees. When rotating, bearings and drive are wear parts. The 102 kg with tripod and the 1,600 W call for a load-bearing set-up and mains or generator power. The 7.7 km applies to small UAS and the 18 km to large ones, and the two must not be mixed. Cameras complement identification.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
