The SIYI ZT6 is a compact three-axis pod with two sensors for mid-sized multicopters: a 4K daylight camera and a thermal camera with 640 × 512 pixels. The maker is based in Shenzhen, China. The pod serves observation, search and simple inspection and measures temperatures for point, box and full frame.

The thermal detector is an uncooled VOx microbolometer with 640 × 512 pixels in the spectral range of 8 to 14 µm at 30 Hz. The daylight camera has a 1/2.8-inch Sony CMOS with 8 MP and records 4K at 30 frames per second. Zoom is purely digital: 6x in the visible channel and 2x in the thermal image; digital zoom only enlarges the crop and gives no additional detail. The pod weighs about 197 g.

At 30 Hz, the frame rate lies above the 9 Hz limit above which thermal modules fall under the EU Dual-Use Regulation; an export can require a licence. The pod counts towards the take-off mass of the aircraft, for which the EU class limits are 250 g (C0), 900 g (C1) and 4 kg (C2). Images of people and property fall under data-protection law.

The temperature measurement for point, box and full frame serves quick assessment in flight; for dependable measurement reports, what matters is that the image file stores temperature values per pixel. The thermal channel has a fixed focal length and only 2x digital zoom, which limits range. Wear points are the small gimbal motors, the dampers and the connectors; rain and dust are to be avoided.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
