The SkyWall Patrol from OpenWorks Engineering (United Kingdom) is a portable, shoulder-fired compressed-gas net launcher for personnel on foot. A targeting computer supports aiming with pre-programmed targeting. The manufacturer names police and the military as fields of use; a case study describes use by two police authorities.

The projectiles determine the effect: SP10 is a plain net, SP40 a net with a parachute for lowering the captured drone in a controlled way. The projectiles are reusable; for practice there are the projectiles TR10 and TR40. The targeting computer relieves the user when aiming. The design is hand-held: the system is meant to equip personnel on foot and not to monitor a site permanently.

A net launcher intervenes in a drone's flight and is therefore an active countermeasure. Destroying, disabling or taking over a drone is reserved to designated state bodies in Poland under Art. 156ze of the Aviation Law (Dz.U. 2025 item 179); in Germany hazard prevention rests with the federal and state police, and § 15a LuftSiG governs support by the armed forces through administrative assistance. Who may operate jammers is set by § 91 TKG in Germany and Art. 42 of the Electronic Communications Law (Dz.U. 2024 item 1221) in Poland: authorities only. Private operators, such as event organisers, generally come into consideration in Germany and Poland only for detection functions.

For reusable projectiles, the condition of net and parachute after each use, the compressed-gas system with seals and valves and upkeep of the targeting computer count. Because practice and live projectiles are kept apart, marking and stock-keeping belong to operation; users need regular training.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
