The DroneGun Tactical from DroneShield (Australia) is a two-handed radio and GNSS jammer in rifle form, built for counter-drone work at longer range. It overlays the ISM bands used for control and video as well as satellite navigation. The drone responds according to its failsafe: return, landing or crash.
The legal framework comes before the numbers: the device is meant for authorities and armed forces. In the EU only authorised bodies may operate it; in Germany Section 91 TKG requires an assignment from the Bundesnetzagentur, and drone defence follows Section 15a LuftSiG. In Poland Article 42 of the 2024 Electronic Communications Law permits jamming devices only in cases regulated by statute, and drone defence is governed by Article 156ze of the Aviation Law. In the USA the manufacturer states that it supplies only government agencies (FCC). GNSS jamming also affects uninvolved users nearby, and broadband ISM emissions affect other radio services.
The effect range of 1 km comes from the device's launch in 2018; other datasheets give 1 to 2 km; the value applies under favourable conditions. The unit weighs 7.3 kg with two batteries (6.8 kg in 2018) and is protected to IP54 against dust and splashing water, which is less than IP67 devices. The jamming acts directionally on the ISM bands and on GNSS. As fields of use the manufacturer names military and police.
At 7.3 kg, weight is a selection criterion for longer operations on foot; a device in rifle form also requires trained personnel. IP54 protection calls for care in rain and damp. Wear concerns the two batteries (cycle count, cell voltage), seals and connectors, and the output stages in continuous operation. Radio jamming has no effect on drones without a radio link or with fibre-optic control. Approval and frequency coordination belong to the procurement route.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
