The Dedrone PTZ camera with normal range is made by Axis and is a pan-tilt-zoom daylight camera. It is integrated into DedroneTracker.AI and serves the visual confirmation of drones. The manufacturer names prisons, industry, stadiums and critical infrastructure as fields of use; the design is fixed.

The camera has 30x optical zoom at 1080p and IR-LED illumination for the night. The detection range is up to 1 km, that of night vision up to 400 m: in darkness the usable range therefore shrinks to 400 m. A thermal channel is not part of the equipment; the camera is a daylight camera with infrared illumination. Detecting succeeds at greater distance than identifying. The value 360 degrees describes the pan range of the head, not the simultaneous field of view.

The camera emits no radio signals and does not fall under the operator limits for jammers. Data protection has to be observed: especially at stadiums, industrial sites and prisons, people and property come into the frame, recordings fall under data protection law (in the EU the GDPR), and siting, framing and retention period must be planned accordingly. Defeating a detected drone remains reserved for the competent authorities (in Germany under Section 15a LuftSiG, in Poland under Article 156ze of the Aviation Law).

In selection, night performance is the checkpoint: anyone who wants to secure a site around the clock needs either sufficient illumination range or an additional thermal camera. Cameras of this kind are usually cued by radar or radio detector, which assign the target; in DedroneTracker.AI the camera is built into this link. Wear concerns the pan and tilt drives, seals and window, and the IR LEDs, whose brightness fades over time. Weather, light and drone size determine the achievable distance.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
