The CubePilot Cube Orange+ (Australia) is an autopilot of the Pixhawk line for mid-size multicopters and the successor of the Cube Orange. Among other places it is fitted in the Inspired Flight IF800 and, like every Cube, plugs into a carrier board.

The processor is an STM32H757ZI (Cortex-M7, 400 MHz, 1 MB RAM, 2 MB flash); an STM32F103 serves as failsafe. Of the three IMUs, two are vibration-isolated; the types fitted depend on the batch (ICM42688p, ICM20948 or ICM20649), which affects the choice of filters and parameters. Two MS5611 barometers secure altitude. The Cube provides 14 PWM, 5 UART, 2 CAN, I2C, SPI, ADC, RC inputs (DSM, S.BUS, PPM), microSD and two microUSB. Supply is 4.1 to 5.7 V (USB 4 to 5.7 V). The Cube measures 38.25 × 38.25 × 22.3 mm, the carrier board 94.5 × 44.3 × 17.3 mm. PX4 from version 1.14 and ArduPilot run on the module.

CubePilot declares all products except Herelink as NDAA compliant, which US federal contracts may require. In the EU the finished drone decides on class and Remote ID, and above 25 kg take-off mass the operation belongs in the specific category.

When selecting, note that the fit depends on the batch: anyone carrying over filter settings from an earlier delivery checks the IMU type. The vibration isolation only works with a clean installation of the carrier board. The contacts between Cube and carrier board are the wear point; after every modification the accelerometer, gyro and compass are calibrated again.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
