The APC 20x10E is a thin electric propeller from APC Propellers (Landing Products Inc., USA) and belongs to the fixed-wing class. The E in the designation marks the thin-profile version of the APC range that is laid out for electric motors. It is intended for large electric fixed-wing models; according to APC the electric propellers are also suitable for multicopters.

The diameter is 20 in and the pitch 10 in, exactly half: in theory the propeller advances 10 in per revolution, a ratio that suits electric cruise flight rather than pure hovering. Two blades, not foldable, weight 96.1 g (APC lists 3.39 oz). The bore is 6.35 mm with a hub 1.25 in in diameter and 0.50 in thick; a set of adapter rings is included. The maximum speed of 7,500 rpm follows the APC rule of 150,000 divided by the diameter in inches and is a rule-of-thumb figure for the series, not a measurement on this propeller.

The aircraft, not the propeller, sets the legal framework: electrically powered fixed-wing aircraft up to 25 kg stay in the open category; class C4 is the class for model aircraft without automatic flight modes. Operator registration applies from 250 g take-off mass. With a 20 in propeller, a safe distance from people and switching off the drive before any work at the hub are mandatory.

On selection, motor, cell count and speed have to be considered, because the product of diameter and rotational speed sets the blade-tip speed and with it noise and losses. Leading edges and the thin blade root should be checked for nicks and cracks; a cracked blade is replaced. The 6.35 mm bore must fit the shaft or, through the adapter rings, the motor.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
