The Alpine Eagle Sentinel is an airborne counter-drone system from Germany. Carrier drones lift radar and electro-optics into the air, detect small drones and launch interceptor drones; Sentinel-OS is also part of the system. It is deployable and listed as a military system, and the manufacturer names the military and critical infrastructure as fields of use.
The emphasis lies on the architecture: radar and electro-optics are two sensor types that together reduce false alarms; the elevated position improves the line of sight compared with a ground-level radar. The effect comes from interceptor drones using net capture or destruction. The Bundeswehr is the first customer (2024), the system was tested in Ukraine, and in 2026 Alpine Eagle signed a memorandum of understanding with Origin Robotics on integrating the BLAZE interceptor.
Legally the Sentinel belongs to the state sphere. According to the manufacturer, exports require a licence. Jammers may be operated only by authorities in Germany (§ 91 TKG) and in Poland (Art. 42 of the Electronic Communications Law, Dz.U. 2024 item 1221). Who may act actively against drones is narrowly fixed by law: in Poland Art. 156ze of the Aviation Law (Dz.U. 2025 item 179), in Germany hazard prevention lies with the police, with the armed forces under § 15a LuftSiG as administrative assistance.
In airborne systems the propulsion and energy storage of the carrier drones wear, and wind and precipitation limit readiness to fly. Radar and optics on a moving platform need regular calibration, and the software needs maintenance. Interceptors have to be restocked after use; connection to an existing situation picture matters as well.
