Deutz-Fahr Agrotron MK1 – 4.85 and 4.90: the upper power class of the first Agrotron generation from Lauingen, 82 to 88 hp, four-cylinder engines at 3,192 cc and 4,040 to 4,160 kg
From 1995 the Agrotron replaced the D-series as Deutz-Fahr's new flagship range, built at the Lauingen an der Donau plant within the SAME Deutz-Fahr group. The 4.85 and 4.90 belong, like the smaller 4.70/4.80, to the first Agrotron generation (MK1), but occupy its upper power step: the figures after the decimal point, 85 and 90, mark the approximate horsepower class within the 4 range.

The register lists 2 variants with 60.4 to 64.8 kW, or 82 to 88 hp, from four-cylinder engines of 3,192 cc displacement at a rated speed of 2,300 rpm and torque of 297 to 349 Nm. Unladen weights fall between 4,040 and 4,160 kg, with dimensions of 4,005 mm in length, 2,008 mm in width and 2,750 mm in height. Both variants are approved for diesel and biodiesel operation.
With heavier boosting of the same 3.2-litre four-cylinder engine, the 4.85 and 4.90 delivered noticeably more pulling power and displacement utilisation than the smaller Agrotron types, aimed at farms with higher power needs in tillage and haulage, competing directly with the Fendt Favorit and Case IH Maxxum models of the period.
When buying used, the turbocharger and intercooler deserve particular attention given the higher engine output, as does the hydraulic pump under heavy front-loader use. Clutch and cab mounts should be checked for wear, and seals and fuel lines for material compatibility where biodiesel has been used. Parts supply runs reliably through the Deutz-Fahr network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
