CLAAS Ares 500 – Ares 557, 567 and 577 from the Le Mans plant: four-cylinder diesel from 75 to 91.5 kW, 4,525 cm³ displacement and 4,820 kg operating weight, built 2002 to 2008
CLAAS built the Ares 500 range at its French plant in Le Mans, which emerged from the Renault Agriculture farm machinery division taken over in 2003. The three models Ares 557, 567 and 577 were produced between 2002 and 2008; the last two digits of the type designation rise with engine output within the range. The round, all-round-glazed cab with a wide field of view is a legacy of the Renault design that CLAAS initially retained after the takeover.

The register lists 3 versions with 75 to 91.5 kW rated output at a constant 2,200 rpm. All three models share a four-cylinder diesel engine with 4,525 cm³ displacement and an operating weight of 4,820 kg, a length of 4,720 mm and a height of 2,905 mm.
The Ares 500 sat in the mid power segment for mixed operations combining fieldwork and transport, competing there with John Deere and Fendt. The constant engine base across all three output stages made spares stocking and workshop practice easier, while the round cab gave good all-round visibility for loader and trailer work.
When buying used, the condition of clutch and gearbox, the tightness of the hydraulic system, and corrosion on wings and cab floor rank among the key checks. For the cooling system and injection pump it is worth checking the service history, as well as the cab glazing seals; spare parts for the Ares range are available through the CLAAS dealer network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
