Chrysler VOYAGER – collective page of the large van from Graz: 2.5 TD/CRD diesels and 3.3/3.8 V6 petrol, SE/LE trim, 2.4 to 3.8 litre displacement

This page gathers the Chrysler Voyager and Grand Voyager, the large-van programme Chrysler sold in Europe under its own name from 1988, after Plymouth and Dodge had offered the model in North America since 1984. From 1995/1996 the European Voyager was built in Graz, Austria, at the Eurostar joint plant with Steyr-Daimler-Puch. The type designation gives displacement and drivetrain – 2.5 TD and 2.5 CRD for the four-cylinder turbodiesels, 3.3I and 3.8I for the V6 petrol engines – SE and LE mark the equipment lines, and High Roof the raised roof of the commercial version.

The register lists here 50 versions with displacements from 2,429 to 3,778 cm³ from four- to six-cylinders, unladen weights from 1,440 to 1,984 kg against gross weights of 2,210 to 2,560 kg and widths from 1,760 to 2,000 mm; outputs are recorded for a handful of entries at 85 to 110 kW, lengths at 4,730 to 4,900 mm.

The Voyager is regarded as a pioneer of the modern large van and competed in Europe with the Renault Espace and VW Sharan; the models on this page, registered as High Roof or Commercial versions, were used above all commercially as courier and tradesman vehicles.

On used examples, the CRD engines from VM Motori call for checking the timing chain and turbocharger, the V6 petrol engines the cooling system, and the body for rust at the sliding-door tracks and floor pan; parts supply runs through the Stellantis network, though it thins out on older models.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
