Chrysler Dodge – pick-ups, vans and SUVs of the brand since 1900: D100 to Ram, Dakota, Grand Caravan and Durango, V8 engines (Magnum, PowerTech), gross weight up to 3.5 tonnes

Dodge is a brand founded in 1900 by brothers John and Horace Dodge in Detroit, taken over by Chrysler in 1928 and forming its commercial-vehicle and pick-up division ever since. This page gathers Dodge models outside the named ranges: the D100 to D200 and W200 pick-ups of the 1960s and 1970s, the compact Dakota pick-up (from 1987), the full-size Ram range in the 150/1500 to 2500 generations, the Ram Van, the Grand Caravan minivan and the Durango SUV. Until the separate Ram brand was spun off in 2010, the pick-ups were sold as Dodge Ram; designations such as SLT, Laramie and SRT denote equipment and sport lines. The models were powered by Chrysler's own V8 engines (Magnum, PowerTech) and, in the heavier Ram versions, by the Cummins in-line six-cylinder diesel.

The register lists here 33 versions from four- to ten-cylinders of 4,701 to 5,900 cm³ displacement, unladen weights from 1,510 to 2,916 kg, gross weights from 2,033 to 3,500 kg and widths from 1,820 to 2,130 mm.

Dodge pick-ups and the Ram Van were long the number two or three in North America behind the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet/GMC, with large V8 engines as a selling point; the Grand Caravan helped shape the segment as one of the first large minivans.

On V8 models, oil consumption and the condition of the hydraulic lifters, on Cummins diesels in heavier Ram versions the injection pump and turbocharger, corrosion on the bed and frame, and wear on the steering and suspension under heavy loads all count; spare parts run through the Chrysler/Stellantis network, and for older model years also through US importers.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
