Cat launched the line in 1986 with the Challenger 65, fitted with its own Mobile-Trac System — sprung rubber tracks combining the flotation and pulling power of steel tracks with tyre-like road manners. In 2002 Caterpillar sold the entire Challenger tractor business to AGCO, licensing the name and livery — since then the line has continued under the Challenger brand at AGCO, while Caterpillar itself refocused on construction equipment.
