The STX range was Case IH's big tractor of the first CNH years – built in Fargo, North Dakota, the plant of the articulated-tractor pioneer Steiger that Case had taken over in 1986 and whose name still stands on the tractors today. The type logic: STX marks the range, the number the hp class – STX 275 about 275 hp, STX 375 375 hp, STX 480 480 hp, STX 535 about 535 hp as the most powerful model of the 2007 upgrade – Quadtrac and QT the version on four rubber tracks instead of wheels, which Case IH brought to series production in 1996 as the first company. The engines are graded by size: the CNH six-cylinder of 8.3 litres in the STX 275 and 325, the Cummins QSM11 of 10.8 litres in the STX 375 and 440, the Cummins QSX15 of 14.9 litres in the STX 450 to 535 – the register span of 8,268 to 15,000 cm³ shows the three steps. The STXs are technically the red twins of the New Holland TJ from the same plant.

The register lists 11 versions with 202.3 to 439 kW from six-cylinders at 2,000 rpm, unladen weights from 14,422 to 24,500 kg, a lift capacity up to 8,949 kg, lengths from 7,010 to 7,800 mm, widths from 3,000 to 3,886 mm and heights from 3,480 to 3,631 mm.
The STX Quadtrac is the machine of the big farms of Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan and eastern Germany; in 2007 the Steiger 335 to 535 range followed and in 2011 the Steiger 350 to 600 in the same logic.
On used tractors, operating hours, engine and powershift, articulation joint and steering cylinders, on Quadtracs the rubber belts, rollers and drive wheels (the most expensive item), on wheeled models axles and tyres, hydraulics and electronics count; parts run through CNH and Cummins.
