Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau built air-cooled diesel tractors from 1956 to 1963 at its plant in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, their engine concept going back to pre-war developments by Ferdinand Porsche. The precursor was the Allgaier R22, built by the Allgaier company of Uhingen until Porsche took over the tractor division in 1956. The type logic of the Porsche-Diesel range follows cylinder count: Junior with a single cylinder, Standard with two, Super with three; the Star suffix and number combinations such as 308 or 1965 mark equipment levels and model years. In 1963 Porsche ended tractor production, with the dealer network partly taken over by Fendt and Deutz.
